Since I've first been listening to 'In The Eyes Of God', Today Is The Day are my favourite Psycho Core band, and I like them even more than Neurosis. Steve Austin - the head of this band - is an extreme person, and so is his music. One trademark is the constant line-up change. As the songs are taken from different concerts recorded on different years, nearly every song has different musicians. Some songs like 'In The Eyes Of God' are a pure noise orgy, 'Temple Of The Morning Star' is a semi-acoustic track recorded live at a radio station or 'Ripped Off' is a real slow acoustic instrumental song. Steve Austin is always right for big surprises, as shown on the three studio recorded cover versions on this CD. There is 'Feel Like Makin' Love', originally recorded by Bad Company, but it also got already interpretated by some South Park charakters. Then there is still 'Wicked Game', better than the versions by Chris Isaak or H.I.M. and 'Why Don't We Do It In The Road' (The Beatles). It's just a pity that this perfect album doesn't last 20 or 30 minutes longer, because each time when the last song 'The Man Who Loved To Hurt Himself' is ending, I'm disappointed again. |
