At first glance, a collaboration between the Doom Metal band Trouble and the Soul Rock band King's X seems quite unusual. But after only listening twice to the self titled debut of this new project called Supershine, I knew that both bands intended to play something different than what they usually do. It's quite interesting to hear Doug Pinnick's soaring soulful voice combined with Bruce Franklin's low tuned guitar riffs. The drummers of King's X (Jerry Gaskill) and Trouble (Jeff Olsen) share the drum work on this album. Some songs like the groovy opener 'Take Me Away' or 'I Can't Help You' go more into a King's X direction. Others like 'In Mourning' or 'Shadows / Light' show clear parallels to Trouble. Just imagine Supershine as a harder or straighter version of Trouble or as a more psychadelic version of King's X. But don't care about any descriptions. If you are familiar with the music of both bands, you will surely like Supershine. |
