Most prog bands nowadays are nothing more than melodic AOR bands with some more breaks
on their CDs than the average Bon Jovi album. Fortunately there are still bands that
sound really progressive, like Sore Plexus from Bochum, a city in Germany and also the
hometown of the most important punk band ever (Die Kassierer). Sore Plexus released their
debut CD about two years ago, and their new stuff will be even sicker. The fast opener
has some very melodic parts to emphasize the extremeness of the song, 'Microburst' is a
short but funny song, 'Die Nasty Qui-Ling' has a nice trumpet break and the final 'P. Domain'
is accompanied by a sitar. The first time I listened to this advance CD, I liked it immediately,
but there were absolutely no comparisons I could think of, but after the fifth or sixth listen,
I felt reminded of the great PRKLZ, another real prog band from Germany, whose CD 'Deuce' some
years ago was equally great, but unfortunately underestimated. If you like your prog metal really
complicated, and if you like bands like the above mentionned PRKLZ or early Sieges Even, this
CD should be the right thing for you. Contact address: Dirk Nowak, Sombornerstraße 89, 44894 BOCHUM, Germany. |
