Normally a somnifere is inducing sleep, but this definitely can't be said about the German Neo Thrash Metal band from Worms which has the same name. After the foundation in 1995, the band released two demos before they decided to record their debut in 2000 which got released in early 2001. Nowadays it's very difficult to bring new elements into Thrash Metal, but Somnifere included a keyboard player in their line-up and he has a bigger role than just playing some background tunes. That's the obvious reason why the sound is described as Neo Thrash Metal. I can't say that their sound is unique as their are clear parallels to bands like Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad or Korn. But the use of Trance like samples and the combination of groovy riffs and heavy attacks is somehow fascinating. The huge variations in the vocals and the changes of aggressive and softer parts are two more interesting points on this CD. 'Audioporn' is an impressive debut balancing between Metal and Trance, surely suitable for fans of styles like Thrash Metal, Industrial and harder Techno. Somnifere belong to the best newcomers in German Metal. If the audience will take notice of their high class, they won't come to sleep because they'll have to tour a lot.
