During the last months, there have been lots of bands releasing albums which only contain cover versions (Helloween, Tom Jones, The Bates, Haemorrhage,...) and now Six Feet Under like to play Death Metal versions of Rock and Metal classics. Definitely not a very original idea, but somehow they succeeded in most of the songs to bring out new interesting versions. Maybe that this is not the biggest surprise as Six Feet Under consist of ex-members of bands like Cannibal Corpse, Death and Massacre and don't forget that they released in 1999 a real smasher album called 'Maximum Violence'. Unfortunately, the opener 'Holocaust' (Savatage) is sounding quite disappointing. Somehow Six Feet Under are not able to give the song the same symphonic depth that Savatage did. OK, but styles of music aren't compatible at all, but the eleven other songs were very well done. Absolute highlights are 'Son Of A Bitch' (Accept), 'California Uber Alles' (Dead Kennedys) and 'Black Out' (Scorpions) which featuers Jon Bush as a guest singer. The other graveyard classics are TNT (AC/DC), Sweet Leaf (Black Sabbath), Piranha (Exodus), Stepping Stone (Sex Pistols), Confused (Angel Witch), Smoke On The Water (Deep Purple), Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix) and In League With Satan (Venom). So I think that this CD is an amazing tour through a Rock and Metal museum. |
