'Ghosts' is already the 15th release by Rage if you like to add both Avenger albums and the best-of one. During 15 years, mastermind, singer and bassist Peavy Wagner presented the many different faces of Rage. In the last years, they got quite successful by integrating the Lingua Mortis Orchestra into their songs. So it isn't a surprise that Rage continue on 'Ghosts' where they stopped on their last CD 'XIII'. The integration of Rock and Classic instruments has been concluded in an excellent way. Most songs on this CD are real epic and symphonic Metal hymns and I certainly would like them if this would be Rage's first album of that kind. My problem with 'Ghosts' is that the band seems to be in a state of stagnation. There are no new ideas or elements in the new songs. Although if the instrumentation is absolutely perfect, the songwriting isn't exciting enough. Even if Rage try to play dramatic parts, they don't succeed in achieving the class of a Power Metal band like Savatage. Especially slower songs like 'Vanished In Haze' or 'Spiritual Awakening' are too kitschy for my ears. The only real smasher is called 'Love And Fear Unite' and Rage show that they are still able to rock. But that's not enough for a good review.
