Although Petrograd aren't so popular or known in their country, they belong to the best selling bands from Luxemburg. Their split-LP with Active Minds already sold 4000 times, and the first complete CD called 'Isabelle' has even an issue of 10000 copies. Most copies will surely will sold in other countries where Petrograd's marvellous melodic Pop Punk is more appreciated. 'Isabelle' contains new material but also some classics like 'Toys' or the hit single 'What About Me'. While listening to Petrograd, I sometimes wonder if they have been definiting the shape of Pop Punk to come: melodic song structures which go easy into your mind, refrains with two voices, songs accompanied by two guitars to avoid to go to far into Pop fields. But some new songs have been real surprises and represent the band's recent development. 'It Takes A Lot More' shows Petrograd from a quiet side, 'Ask Yourself Why' is a cover version of a Subway Arts song, a band where guitarist/singer Diff and drummer Thierry used to play. 'Quicksnap Memories' is the strangest song as lots of orgues transform it into a boogie woogie number. And you may wonder why singer Sim is groaning with full patience on 'Bungee'. 'Isabelle' contains no boring moments and belongs to the best luxemburgish CDs. |
