The midges are an annoying kind of flies with is mostly spread in Scotland. But if you write the word with a large M, then the Midges are a German band who see their music as a mixture of Pop, Rock and Jazz. A parallel sounding band are The Beatles, when you believe what they are writing in their info sheet. After having been listening several times to the album, it reminds me much more of the Violent Femmes from Canada that are a solid Rock band with some Folk roots. The similarities between both singers are enormous, parallels between the songwritings of both bands can't be denied. The singer from The Midges has a great vivid voice, but unfortunately it's suffering from a bad German accent. Even if I have another view of the music than the band, I still consider 'Waiting' by The Midges as an excellent Pop-Rock album, suitable for less extreme moments in life. |
