In 1989, Lizzy Borden released his sixth album called 'Master Of Disguise'. Then we had to wait for whole 11 years until he put out the seventh album which is called 'Deal With The Devil'. In the 80's, Lizzy Borden always had a bad reputation for playing a kind of Shock Rock. He was playing a mixture of Rock'n'Roll and Glam and got often compared to artists like Alice Cooper, Kiss or David Bowie which surely is a positive compliment. After the huge world tour lasting until 1992, it got very quiet about him. The first thing we heard from him after the long break was that he got arrested because he carried a (fake)blood dripping axe in one of his suitcases. A very good start for a comeback and the new album is a real smasher. Lizzy Borden hasn't developed in that sense that his music is free from any influences of the 90's. It's still excellent Glam Rock and his voice often reminds me of Twisted Sister's Dee Snider, one of the few music icons of the 80's. But some passages are also sounding like the early Queensryche. If you are fed up with True Metal and a bit nostalgic, 'Deal With The Devil' is an excellent choice. The album is containing 9 own songs by Lizzy and two cover versions: Alice Cooper's 'Generation Landslide' and Blue Oyster Cult's 'Summer Of Love'. |
