GNOSIS: Colourful Batic-Brain-Washing

Gnosis are a trio from Germany existing for about three years. What they actually play on their 7-track-demo-tape is difficult to describe, they call it themselves Thrash Metal Jazz Punk. Sounds silly, OK? To my ears, the music is an excellent kind of Thrash Metal played on a technically very high level. Maybe that this draws a parallel to Jazz music, but I can't see no similarities to short, fast and vivid Punk songs here. Although Gnosis have their main roots in Thrash Metal, lots of songs contain breaks bringing the music into other directions. Especially the three songs from the A-side and the last one 'The Awakening' underline the variations that Gnosis put into their songs. You can expect nearly everything from slow riffs to fast and brutal attacks. As Gnosis still are newcomers in the Metal scene, 'Colourful Batic-Brain-Washing' (I wonder if this is perhaps a description of the band sound) is more than just a promising debut. The only things that I miss could be a slightly clearer sound and a less monotone singer. But I suppose that Gnosis will have lots of time to work on this.
