Destiny's End is the band founded by former
Helstar singer James Rivera and some New Eden musicians. In 1998 they released their debut called
'Breathe Deep The Dark', which today still is a fantastic Power Metal album. It also gave the band
lots of recognitions and great tours with Nevermore, Iced Earth, Sacred Steel and Wardog. About two and a half years later, Destiny's End come back to present a second album called 'Transition'. The title already suggests that there have been some changes in the band. After the recordings, original guitar player Perry Grayson got replaced by Eric Halpern. Although there are some slight musical changes, too, Destiny's End are still playing powerful, speedy, but melodic Metal. And the tremendous voice of James Rivera hasn't lost anything of its class. It's still as fascinating as in old Helstar days. Two changes that I have discovered on this record are some more quiet parts (it seems as Mr. Rivera is getting older ;-P). For instance 'A Passing Phase' has an acoustic intro and the long closening track 'Vanished' is a half ballad. Then some songs also have a more experimental touch as you can hear on the voice distortions on the opening song 'Transition'. To be honest, 'Transition' isn't better or worse as the debut, but James Rivera and his boys were able to maintain their already high musical level. |
