Although 'Arrival' is the first album by Cornerstone, the heads behind this band are no newcomers in the Melodic Metal scene. It's the band formed by vocalist Dougie White (ex-Midnight Blue, ex-Rainbow) and passplayer Steen Mogensen (Royal Hunt) who is mainly responsible for the songwriting. In general Melodic Metal is not absolutely what I'm crazy about, but there are some bands doing a good job in that musical direction, like USM or Cornerstone. The songwriting on 'Arrival' is strongly influenced by bands like Deep Purple, Saga, Queensryche and Pink Floyd, so the entire result may be called as timeless Rock. Some songs go into a more commercial line (Walked On The Water), others are slighty faster and rougher (Jungle) and 'Gift Of Flesh' even shows some Meatloaf like bombastic parallels. Cornerstone definitely haven't reinvented Rock music, but the whole presentation (vocals, instrumentation, songwriting) are absolutely professional so that listening to this album is very pleasant to pass one's leisure time.
