In the late 80ies, there came an extreme Metal movement from the USA called Death Metal. The two most popular bands at that time were Morbid Angel and Obituary. Trevor Peres disbanded with Obituary after having recorded five albums with the bands. Then he decided to go his own way and together with the musicians of the Hardcore band Pyrexia, he founded in 1999 a new band called Catastrophic. Catastrophic are not following any trends and they play very classic and brutal Death Metal. Speed isn't the most important factor in their music, but brutality and rage are standing in the foreground. There are surely some real fast tracks with Hardcore like drums (Lab Rats), but the main trademarks of Catastrophic are the extremely violent guitar sound and rough vocals. 'The Cleansing' won't cause a revolution in Death Metal values, but it's suitable to become a timeless Death Metal classic. Definitely no music for whimps.
