During the last few years, there are always more Luxemburgian bands who dare playing concerts and releasing CDs on their own. In general, most outputs aren't so bad and the national underground scene is much more interesting than it used to be in the eighties.
Average have now released a CD-EP containing six songs. Meanwhile they are composed of two female singers, two guitar players, one bassist / didgeridoo player and a drummer. On the CD - when there was only one singer - Average play a pleasant mixture of Pop and Rock, presented in an alternative way. The opener 'Not What It Seems' - which you can also find one the Backline sampler 'Made In Luxemburg '99' - is immediately a song which sticks into your ear. Thanks to the melodic song lines and the excellent singer, there are parallels to the Cranberries or the Throwing Muses. Not less poppish are the two following songs called 'Trust' and 'Suffering'. The fourth song 'Yaraki' is a short tribal intermezzo consisting of a didgeridoo and a large rhythm section. Finally the two last songs go again more into the usual way. Maybe I miss on this CD a bit of variety. Average aren't perfect yet, but already much better than average.
